Description:

In the 1970s, the Black Faculty and Staff (BFS) organization was established and later formalized to unite Black Faculty and Staff members from across the Brooklyn College campus. Their presence sparked a renaissance in thought and increased visibility for the valuable contributions of the Black faculty and staff at the college.

In the same spirit as the creation of Black Solidarity Day, inspired by the fictional play “Day of Absence,” we are now celebrating the BFS Renaissance—a day of presence and heightened visibility. The Renaissance processional walk will be led by the founding leaders of various phases of the BFS Renaissance, paying tribute to those who are no longer with us. Following them, we will have staff and students who have played significant roles in ushering the BFS into a new era. Students are encouraged to hold signs with influential and meaningful quotes that have inspired us throughout the years.

We kindly request that you wear black or maroon attire to show your support and be more visible during this special occasion. We will capture a group photo together before proceeding to the designated room (113 Ingersoll Hall) to honor the contributions of the BFS founders and engage in an open discussion.
